In 2007, Edward C. Nurre and Robert M. Hobson purchased the Kennedy-Stevens Funeral Home in Bethel. The Bethel Funeral Home dates back to the early 1900s. It was started by the Osborne and Kennedy families and continued to be operated as the Kennedy Funeral Home by succeeding generations of the Kennedy family. In the 1930’s C. Richard Stevens joined the firm and between 1957 and the late 1970’s Mr. Stevens gradually purchased all but a small portion of the business from Edwin Lee Kennedy and changed the name to Kennedy-Stevens Funeral Home. In 1964, Dan M. Stevens joined the business. C. Richard Stevens died in 1973 and Edwin Lee Kennedy died in 1987.
